Page 1 of 2 It is already happening. Less than a year after its release people are starting to tell me that the movie “The Secret” was just a lot of hype. Yet still I am made aware that some find it to be the doorway to a new awakening, a new freedom and newfound happiness. What is the difference? Why for some and not for others?
I work daily with people who practice the principles of the Law of Attraction in their daily lives and they swear it is working great for them. They consciously use it to create healthier bodies, connections and vocations and …Yes, they use it to create greater financial freedom for themselves. They don’t believe it is all hype, and by a look at their lives it would appear to be something more than just some hocus pocus. I have personally worked with people who have rid themselves of cancer and a variety of other diseases. I have worked with numerous people, who have moved themselves out of severe poverty into various degrees of financial affluence. The most profound changes I have seen have come in the form of happiness; people who were miserable every day, who felt the world was out to get them have found a deep sense of peace. In my estimation there is no greater joy than the discovery of true happiness. I am often reminded of the day I realized that I was wishing all my friends happiness while praying for my own income to increase. That day of realization changed my focus. Happiness is the greatest gift of this teaching. Every day more people are becoming exposed to the basic and almost simplistic ideas heralded in “The Secret”. They are looking around themselves and continually seeing a shared reality, a common discovery. Talking to a neighbour they hear mention of the latest authors Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer and Eckhart Tolle. They hear about the latest movies like “What The Bleep” or “Celestine Prophesy”. They show up at work and are introduced to the latest motivational speakers and workshop leaders such as Harv Ecker and Stephen Covey. Every sales person is introduced to “Think and Grow Rich” by the grand father motivator of them all Napoleon Hill. They even hear it from their fringe friends spouting the latest channeled works of aliens, ascended masters and angels. “Where ever can a person turn,” they think? It’s almost as if they have to embrace an attitude of mockery or outright disbelief to avoid this stuff. And still it comes walking through the door with their children, their successful relative and their church social friend who was just introduced to the latest New York Times best seller; yet another spiritual/religious mystery. There is no longer a way to avoid it. But is that a bad thing? I don’t see this wave of self “As you think…” teaching leading to murders in the streets. I don’t see it promoting drug use, fraud or violence. All that I have seen in this new teaching promotes peace, environmental awareness and self empowerment. All of it teaches, in one language or another, ‘You are the Power in Your Life’. You make it by your patterns and tendencies of thinking. You make your life by the feelings you engender or indulge in. And they all talk about some energy that permeates all that is, that responds to our thoughts and feelings to create for us a life that reflects the patterns of our emotions.
