Today’s mid week inspiration deals with some real issues; it is a call to action for those who want a push.  If you are not interested in having yourself challenged I invite that you not read it.

The world is on the brink of something. Many people agree with this prognosis.  Yet like most prognoses we can’t really define it in any closer terms than that.

We see global changes happening as fast as we see technological changes.  More and more we discover any state of conflict leads directly to a state of chaos; where the only dubious winners are the ones who can safely sit at home, far away from the wars.  At the end of the day even the most secure of us are impacted by the global environmental damages of such conflicts.

Lack of clean water and air continually create more pressure on the well being of the masses.  This general deterioration is leading to a state of mind where death is a reasonable exchange for a social and political statement.  In a third world country where a dollar a day is not an uncommon income and not enough to live on, it is not difficult for a father or brother to give their life for a few hundred dollars, thus possibly ensuring the life of a family member.  Add to this scenario a sense of oppression, racism and manipulation and then ask why any reasonably desperate person would not give their life in the slim hope of making a difference.

So what can be done?  None of us care for this situation but how can we change it?  Unfortunately most of those who ‘have’ live in apathy; not that they would admit it.  Yet as long as there is food on our tables and our families are fine, healthy and generally happy why talk about unsavory topics at the dinner table, why rock the boat.

I am reminded of a time only a few hundred years ago when the Church, the Roman Catholic Church, forefather of almost all modern Christian churches, launched the great inquisition.  This was done, they said, in order to protect the world from heretics and witches. Its primary purpose was to maintain dominion of the Catholic Church.  The ensuing Witch Hunts were completely ineffective in stemming the course of history although they did ensure a two hundred year reign of terror that slaughtered a conservative estimate of six million or more people.  It could not succeed because there never were any ‘witches’.  So after a couple hundred years the inquisition just kind of faded away into a past with few records.

Today we have launched another inquisition; the war on terror.  And it can no more succeed than the last inquisition could, because in truth there are no terrorists, there are only a lot of terrified, desperate and confused people seeking to make a difference, any difference in any way they can find.  All it can do is escalate a global spiral into chaos.
