Mid-week Inspiration,

It's another beautiful day; the rain is coming down in sheets, again. The robins are undaunted as they build their nests, raise their babies and guard their territories from potential threats. Some of the flowers suffer from the beating of the raindrops; most of the plants soak it up well and put on mountains of growth. All of them are waiting breathlessly for the sun.

Life ever reaches for the light.

We have a willow tree growing adjacent to our property. It wasn't always so close; in fact there was a time when it was over twenty feet away. Apparently it didn't want to stay there; it was growing under a grove of cottonwoods that were effectively blocking it from the light it so loves. So over time it began to lean more and more toward the available light in our yard until just a week ago it finally fell into our yard over the fence; still growing.

Just as it is the nature of plants to seek the light I believe it is the nature of humans to seek our higher good. It is the nature of life to seek improvement, better living conditions and in general a more fruitful life. For most of creation this desire expresses in a symbiosis where the growth of one creature supports the growth of those in its proximity. Animals maintain a balance; the stronger ones grow as the weaker ones give.

It is the way of a species that have adopted a belief in conflict and violence to see the same in others, human and animal. The truth may be that life exists in harmony. It is possible that our lack of peace within leads us to see conflict and struggle, to see a nature that is incessantly violent. Maybe life is actually in harmony and we humans are the only species out of the loop.

There are some who some who believe heaven while it may or may not be a place that we go to it is also a state of mind. Right here, right now, by our thoughts and attitudes we are creating our own heaven or hell.

So what does it take to create the heaven we want? It takes living consciously; it takes a mental presence that allows us to monitor our thoughts, words and actions. In seeking more good in and for our lives the only way we can succeed is by giving more good freely. This is something that was naturally understood before the age of technology when we lived closer to the earth and each other. It just made sense to help your neighbour in need because in a harsh environment sooner or later you were going to need as well.

The age of technology has led us to a place where we need to make choices that once were obvious in a more conscious way. When creating our heaven here and now we ask ourselves: is this decision is life-supporting, will it enhance my relationships, does it meet my personal needs? We ask ourselves if our actions support our environment, our children and the needs of the world. These questions take conscious awareness of our actions and thoughts but they do not take time. We all know intrinsically what is life-supporting. The desire to expedite our own good at the cost of others ultimately leads to loss either in our own lives or the lives of our children.

It is so important as we seek the light, as we seek to create our heaven, that we never lose sight of our deep connection with all life. Our journey is not the journey of individuals it is the journey of a global community reaching together to create heaven right here.
