Mid-week Inspiration,

Excitement ignites change in the world.  Every creative genius is charged with boundless enthusiasm, an absolute drive to bring the new into the world.

Yet simultaneously every person has a tendency to drift.  We go through cycles where we are charged up with enthusiasm, moving forward in a passionate embrace of a new adventure.   Then slowly a shift begins to happen.  Slowly and with the subtleness of an invisible undertow we start to move off our original track.  Before we know what has changed we find ourselves captured in the embrace of a mundane life; no enthusiasm, no excitement, no more 'joie de vive'.

What happened?   Do you remember when you were full to overflowing with that youthful exuberance?  Many people attribute it to youthful naiveté or in more jaded perspective; childish ignorance, stupidity and recklessness.  Yet for most people the time they most look back to is that time of unfettered dreaming, when the world was wide open and dreams were unspoiled.

Rediscovering our passion should be our most important daily goal.  It is the one 'must' we all need to remember in order to live and grow in health and joy.  We must learn to set our course and with resolve stay with it. Simultaneously we must develop tools to move us through challenging times that can knock us off track.

One of my most important tools is what I call my covenant or my agreement with the Infinite.  You see what every theologian knows is that this something we call God is not only infinite but is present.  Yet ever so much as God loves us, only what we are able to receive can be given.  And most of us can only receive a very small amount.

"No not me! I'm ready", you say but it doesn't quite work that way.  We can only receive by our giving of what is in alignment with our desire and by our acknowledgement of what we have already received.   This may seem a confusing idea and need much contemplation to be fully understood.

In a sense we are like cups full to brimming.  Even though God, the Universe is pouring its good upon us, because we are already full of our beliefs and limited ideas there remains no room for the new.  We must empty our cup of our belief in lack and this is only done by giving exactly what we want.

So all of us who pray for more of something but yet give nothing are sinning in the literal meaning of the word.  Sin in the original Aramaic, the language of the Old Testament, is an archery term literally translated ‘to miss the mark’.  Hence the term ‘a sin arrow’.

So what does this have to do with a covenant?  Very simply my covenant is my agreement to do my part.  I know the Infinite is giving all goodness to me even in the areas I perceive lack.  So my part is to give that which I have been seeking whether it is financial well being, love, work or anything.
