Mid-week Inspiration,

The election has come and gone.  Once again we have a minority government, just as was promised.  During the election most of the opinion that I heard from voters was an exclamation of the lack of choice, and their general lack of faith.  It seemed that each candidate said and promised whatever the public wanted to hear, yet still we have a minority government.

I believe it was the Dutch Renaissance man, Piet Hein, which said the best majority is a strong minority.  By his measure we are blessed with a representative government.

To me the important issue is not so much who gets in; rather it is whether individuals took responsibility to do something.  Voting reached two thirds of eligible voters this time round; as some rock singer once said, “two out of three ain’t bad”.

That still means that a lot of people feel discouraged with the system; to do nothing felt best to them.  It is important to remember that no action is an action and no decision is a decision.  Every person who didn’t vote cast a default vote in favour of the outcome.  Whether or not we like what we have is not as relevant as accepting what we have, and moving from there toward our desire.

This is such an important lesson spiritually; we must accept where we are in order to change.  We are all human, we all have issues, weaknesses, addictions; skeletons in our closets.  Too often we keep these issues hidden, even from ourselves, because we all need approval.

We tend to avoid uncomfortable scenarios and live in complacent ignorance until forced to make changes.  It seems more than ever; today is the day to make changes.  Today is the day to take charge of who we are, who we really are, and grow from there.  The world is demanding it of us.

It is a very hard thing to acknowledge our pettiness and negativity; all our insecurities.  It is hard to acknowledge that any of us are afraid; certainly it is easier to be angry.

Yet for us to come to a place of strength and health first we must recognize where we are in the moment, not as a place to park ourselves, rather as a place to move on from.  You see, until we acknowledge where we are that is exactly where we remain stuck.

It takes a great deal of resolve to move out of our old place, once discovered.  There is a natural resistance within this universe to change; physically, mentally and spiritually.  The same laws that bind us physically and socially have their spiritual correspondence.  Shift happens but only when we rise above complacency, that inertia of, ‘this is as good as it gets’.

All successful people have realized that the first step to growth is a decision, any decision.  There will always be opportunity to change if what we are doing becomes counter-productive.  In fact any act which is counter-productive to the interests of humanity and oneself is the truest meaning of the biblical word ‘sin’.  Hence, Jesus often said, “Go forth and sin no more.”

So, just as we must be responsible for our political, social and physical actions and involvement within this system we call ours, so we must also learn to be responsible and proactive in our spiritual activities.  We must put behind us any acts of complacency which may be complicit in human suffering.

Today, I ask myself, how can I be spiritually proactive in my activities?

Many Blessings,
