Years ago the Church counted many things as sin that, today, are acceptable.  Years ago many things were acceptable that today are counted as unacceptable by Church and society. This moral shift has been a continuous process throughout the ages.

If a person takes the time to view the events of the Inquisition, it will be discovered that Christianity was very barbaric and power hungry.  Millions were put to death as heretics and witches.  Uncountable numbers were put to death simply because they chose not to be “Christians”.

More recently, in the time of our parents and grandparents, it was considered sin by most western religions to have interracial relationships.  People were incarcerated and even put to death for such actions, often sanctioned by the community churches and international church organizations.

New forms of music have almost always been looked upon as sinful or leading to sin, while it has been acceptable and sanctioned to use corporal punishment on our children. The litany is endless; the point is that morality, any morality, is human.  No matter how righteous the view, if it pertains to others, it is an imposition of personal judgment and, as likely as not, in ten to twenty years it will be looked upon as wrong.  Any Christian religion that disempowers the individual, that imposes ‘right and wrong’ upon its own or others, is imposing a moral authority which is not in line with the teachings of the great teacher Jesus.

Although I have many times found myself in that place of morality it remains my work, as a spiritual leader, to teach people how to think rather than what to think.  By helping to empower individuals to discover their unlimited inner potential, no matter what their political, sexual, social or racial dispositions, I give them the keys to free themselves from bondage; the bondage of a restricted mentality.

When people discover how to change their way of thinking the doors of opportunity are opened; if you doubt this ask any successful person.  It is our old way of thinking, how we feel and what we have inherited as beliefs that continue to hold us in poverty, depression and loneliness.  As we change these patterns we open the doors to abundance in our lives.  As we elevate ourselves we can desire for nothing less than to elevate those who cross our paths.  We make the world a better place one life at a time.

I recently discovered a quote by the famous author and visionary, Kahlil Gibran, “They tell me: if you see a slave sleeping, do not wake him lest he be dreaming of freedom.  I tell them: if you see a slave sleeping, wake him and explain to him freedom.”

Great people have always been defined by how they thought of themselves, not how they thought of others.

The greatest bondage is the bondage of righteousness, righteous judgment.

I do not argue the value of personal, moral integrity, nor do I argue the role of a society to expect a level of moral conformity.  Yet I do continue to recognize that true freedom can only be found when we cast off the shackles of the morality of others and truly start to act from our own conscience.

We need to awaken to an understanding of why we have chosen to act in a specific way.  To find freedom, happiness and true satisfaction we must learn a new way of thinking, one that brings us results today, not when we have remarried, relocated or retired.  Years ago spirituality was dictated by the organization; today you are the master of your life.

Choose a new thought and have a new life.

Many Blessings,
