Mid-week Inspiration,
Life is simple, we make it complicated. The truth is simple, by complicating it we justify our abandonment of basic principles. When we create rules we are complicating the truth. Rules are designed always to serve the needs of the group formulating the rules. This group is always acting from the perspective of us and them. ‘Us and them’ is based upon a belief in separation. The important realization around rules is that they will always lead to opposition and conflict. They will always lead to a state of dominance and oppression. The only way to rid ourselves of rules is to surrender to the truth. The problem here becomes discerning the truth.
If I asked ten people what the truth was about any situation they would all likely disagree. This is the case because every person’s truth is defined intellectually, according to the rules which have been accepted by them. Yet truth has nothing to do with the intellect or rules. Truth is that which supports the highest good in all people. Being human, in our search for truth, all we can aspire to at any time is to do the highest good for those who occupy our awareness in the moment. As we all learn the benefits of doing this we will transform the world. Every world religion in its highest philosophical expression encourages this. So why then does a world that embraces religion in one form or another by most of its people have so very much conflict and corruption? Most people believe a couple of very important things stand in the way. First they believe they are incapable of living the ideals of their religion and second they believe it is somehow okay to deviate a little.
Humanity generally believes that wrong is simply a measure of magnitude and justification (according to their particular rules). If I am sufficiently provoked is then even murder justified? Yet this is exactly the justification for war and capital punishment.
Right now a high profile case is before the US courts, that of Moussaoui, the only person captured who had any relation to the 9-11 event. The government wants him to receive the death penalty. Is it right? Is it justified? What are your beliefs? There are many strongly religious people involved in the decision either in action, conversation or thought.
As most of us know from our religious teachings our thoughts make us complicit in the action. As the great teacher said “It is the evil thoughts that proceed from a man which defile him.” This teaching is not unique to Christianity, rather it is embraced by every great religion. Jesus also said we shall know a people by their actions.
So the practice of true Spirituality and Religion demands that we let go of opinions and judgments and rather seek to do what is best for all people concerned, even if it makes us feel uncomfortable or puts us at odds with those we have looked up to.
The only way to make a change is to stand firm on the commitment to bring joy into all lives around us. May your life continue to bring joy to all those who cross your path this week. Blessings, |
