Mid-week Inspiration, I just returned from a trip to Alberta yesterday. Hours on the road give a person time to contemplate. At one point I chose to listen to the news, and was reminded of our provincial election and minority government. It is so easy with all the polls, the rhetoric and political lobbying to think we don’t make a difference in such events. It’s close to the truth. Our vote, one of potentially millions doesn’t make a huge difference. At the same time it is also always true that our vote may be the one that actually tips the scales.
No matter which way we lean what always makes a difference is what we do every day, how we choose to live our lives in every moment. One time when I was quite young and hitch hiking through northern Alberta I was given a ride by a couple of hunters. Good people, going out to get their winters meat. During my short time with them they boastfully shared their views of the pristine wonderland they called home. Right in the midst of this ‘brag’ one of them rolls down his window and chucks out the fast food trash. At the age of fifteen the wrongs of littering had already been instilled into me. Back in the mid seventies environment wasn’t such a hot topic as it is today but it was still a very public issue. To be unaware one had to choose to be uninformed. That moment made me aware again of consciousness. As I reflect on it another awareness comes to mind, one I came to a couple years later. I realized that democracy is a great system of government; it works. Or at least it works when a population cares to make it work. In fact any system including anarchy will work if a population cares to make it work. We today have a system that will work for us if we work it, and only if we work it. It doesn’t need for any of us to make a ‘right’ choice, but it does need each of us to make a conscious choice based on the betterment of ourselves AND the whole rather than fear of loss. Irregardless of our chosen path of worship, of living, the first step and every step along the way is becoming aware. So however we choose to look at these political events before us let us each choose to be an example of conscious choices. Let us take heed not get stuck on opinions and appearances of ‘political trash’ thereby littering our own political trash. Today I allow my choices to be made from conscious awareness. Whether they be political, economical or social they shall be made from my highest act of rightness. I invite you to to join me in making our world a better place, not so much by changing it as by changing ourselves. It will naturally change as we do. May your week be filled with the rich rewards of your conscious and caring decisions. Blessings, |
