Mid-week Inspiration,

Today I ponder our commitment to living what we believe.  How many of us actually do live what we believe?

Whether we profess to be of any religion do we really practice the precepts of that religion?  Do we actually practice the precepts of Buddhism, Islam, Christianity or our unique chosen spiritual journey?  Each teaches a path of love and tolerance. Yet in a world of relative suffering and conflict clearly the practice falls far short of the teachings.  How is it that we can profess a belonging to religion if we are not actively practicing/living the precepts?  We make claims that we are trying, yet if we put that same effort into getting wealth in our lives I fear all the world would be living in abject poverty.

Most of western humanity has chosen to take a path of ignorance in order to feel good at the end of the day, “if I don’t think about it it’s not really happening”.   I don’t have time, I don’t have enough money, I don’t live there, it doesn't affect me so I don't really care.
Meanwhile the vast majority of us obsess with what is happening “over there”; we live our lives not missing a single newscast, living to know about the latest world disaster, war or deviant killer.
Jesus said to temptation “get the behind me Satan”, yet every day professed Christians put disasters and ‘wrongness’ to the fore of their consciousness thinking no harm comes of it.  They are absolutely wrong.

There is a fundamental teaching at the core of every religious philosophy that I have looked into; the power of our thoughts, even the unconscious ones.  Statements like: “As a man thinkest in his heart so is he”, “that which you think about comes about”, “as you think and believe so you shall achieve” abound in every world religion.

And we have a society whose greater mental focus is on disaster.  I ask you if this is the direction of your attention do you really want world peace, harmony and love.  If so don’t you think it is time to put your attention on that which you desire, isn’t it time to put these childish fixations behind you?

Negative thinking is the number one, the most rampant addiction of our world; it is arguably the root cause of every chronic illness and addiction consuming our society.  Is it not time to turn away from those behaviors that acerbate your problems?  Is it not time to extend true compassion, love and friendship to our world?

Turn off the news, trust the weather and give your good attention to those loved ones who you have surrounded yourself with.  By your good works (and only by your good works) you shall be rewarded.

My blessings to you this week.

In Love and Light,
