Mid-week Inspiration, A week ago my 16 yr old son, Luke, received an email from his 25 yr old brother. This was a profound moment for both of us because it was so profound for Josh. His email came from Sri Lanka; he had gone to help the many Tsunami victims. Of itself that was bound to be a profound awakening for any person, yet for him it went deeper than the obvious suffering and loss that was so overwhelmingly raw.
So what was profound? Josh had made a profession as a bartender, he lived his life for pleasure; snowboarding, surfing, Australia, Hawaii. A life of play. The last we knew about him, only weeks earlier was another year of bartending and boarding at Whistler, BC. Like so many westerners he considered it his birthright to be one of the 'Haves'. And this is absolutely true, the problem is in the implication of separation, the idea that for there to be 'Haves' there must be 'Have-nots'. The Philosophy of New Thought exposes an idea of unlimited source flowing into this world of experience according to and through our beliefs; not just individual but collective. Basically the only existence of lack must be our individual and collective belief in limitation. So the act and attitude of being a 'have' is promoting a belief in poverty. What Josh profoundly discovered, it appears, was a lack within himself. He discovered his adherence to appearances was denying him the opportunity to see the beauty of the living soul. Josh discovered a depth to the human wholism. He discovered spirituality, he discovered a passion within himself. And he could only think about getting back to "the children of this world". What Josh discovered was his own inner wealth greater than any outer measure. In New Thought we learn that the universe willingly gives to us through our declaration 'unlimited riches' in health, relationships finances, creativity; all areas of our lives. All we need do is ask knowing it is done. But wait is that really all? No, it isn't we must also know that our asking enhances the lives of any people implicated in the asking; or at the very least brings no loss. So to hold any idea that we are drawing from a limited bank, that our taking is using up natural and human resources, binds us to a cycle of gain and loss. I have rarely met even an 'enlightened' westerner who had rid him/herself of that 'How lucky I am' syndrome. Josh discovered something we all want to discover; there can be no personal wealth until we truly see the inherent inner riches above the apparent outer wealth. The way of peace and prosperity is in the awakening of our world one heart at a time. We are now one heart closer to world peace. Never believe that you don't make a difference. In truth only you do make a difference. In Love and Light, |
