What do you want?  Do you know?  Have you actually taken the time to look at the things in your life and make a declaration about what you would prefer to have?

Hardly a day goes by that I won’t have cause to ask someone that question.  Hardly a day goes by when I don’t find myself asking that question of myself.  And generally the answer will be a boringly redundant, “I don’t know.”  Not everyone answers in that way; some people tell me they haven’t thought about it.  Well the problem has been going on for years for most of us, so when would be a good time to think about it?  Not in terms of the problem but in terms of what we want, in terms of life without this particular problem.

How is it that we expect to get what we want when we have never taken the time to get clear on what we really do want?  If any of us truly want a better experience in life we must learn to identify that experience.   If we truly want suffering then we should dwell on the suffering we want.  If its disease and misery we want, well then we should necessarily dwell on the disease and misery all around us.  If we want violence in our lives we could certainly dwell on all the violence that the news makes so available to us on a daily basis.

In truth, I doubt there is anyone out there who is consciously thinking they actually want any of those crazy woeful experiences, yet in undisciplined mental activity many people are creating an abundance of these experiences in their lives.  And at the end of the day they hear themselves whispering their sleeping prayers; “Why me?”  If that is how we are choosing to think then ‘Why not us?’

By whatever name you choose to call it there is a power greater than you are that is bringing into your experience according to the tendencies of your thinking.  This is a simple and irrevocable truth.  We call it the law of attraction and whether we are human or mineral it is working inexorably to draw and hold us together according to our physical, mental and spiritual dispositions.
Your thoughts are your prayers and they are always answered.  Once your thought is had it is released and an infinite power takes it up and brings it back to demonstrate in your life in accord with your passion.

Years ago, in the 1940’s a prisoner was released from prison, he was a hardened criminal when he went in for his final term, a life sentence, and was determined to break out irregardless of damage caused to the lives of others.  He had long before given up any thought of morality.  His intention was purely self serving, Starr Daily was by then a ‘hardened criminal’.

Something happened to him in that last prison term that had nothing to do with the system.  He was transformed, he rehabilitated himself, he accepted help as it was offered and used it to make amends and return something to society that, in his past, he had taken.  Some time after his release he was doing a talk, one that he had given before that started with this exclamation; “We become like unto that which we adore.  He went on to explain that the tendencies of our thinking make us who we are; gossip, resentment, and hate make the person ‘a gossip’, or a ‘bitter soul’ or a ‘mean spirited and vengeful person’.  Likewise he explained that the one who dwells upon quality becomes, the artist, the master and the beloved.
