It’s not very often that I meet other ministers from other churches and religions.  Funny thing; we seem to work the same hours and days. 

 

This last week I’ve had the opportunity to meet and even visit with two.  It was an enriching and promising experience.  Any time two different religions come together with mutual appreciation it is cause to celebrate.  Hey; any time two different denominations or even two different branches of the same denomination come together it is an occasion to celebrate.

Planning for the greater picture, it is one of the hardest habits for us to develop.  Most of us don’t have any definite ideas when it comes to a greater picture. 

That’s ok, the details increase exponentially as the grandeur of the vision grows, so making definite plans likely wouldn’t work very well.  Still healthy people need a vision; they need something big to aim for even if they will never reach it.  Better yet, of course, is to make those big crazy dreams a reality.  Whether your dream is grand or humble my wish is that you never attain it, while ever enriching your life.

Last week I received a cryptic note in the mail.  It had a whole lot of scribbling across the top which was supposed to look like, and may have even been, coded writing.  Under that there was one line written in DaVinci’s famous code.  Putting aside Dan Brown’s book The DaVinci Code, it is where you write from right to left so the message will be legible when held up to a mirror.  The message read “The world is an illusion.”  And ‘whoever’ paid over fifty cents to have this message delivered to my door thought it was at least that important; such intrigue.  I passed it on to my youth group to play with.

Growth is challenging for anyone.  It takes a lot of bumps and falls to get anywhere.  Reaching a dream is a high stakes process where everything will be put on the line.

 

 

All we need do is watch a child learning to walk to realize this.  They see it, they know it can be done and they want it.  They will take many falls in their journey to walking, they will bump their heads and their bodies; and every time they go down they will get up again.  And they will be successful.
